Party With A Purpose
#ForFlint was originally scheduled for October 14th, 2016 but because of Fall Break at Miami University we decided to push the event back to the 21st when students returned to increase participation. With about 2 weeks of planning we were able to collect 76 cases of water, over $200 in monetary donations used to cover travel and additional cases of water, in addition to a $100 gift card donated to us from the Oxford, Ohio Walmart. The highlight was seeing every one rush to the venue to drop off water, leave to change, then come back to party with us.
This event wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for collaboration. There were a number of independent donors that not only contributed financially, but took the time out to share our posts to their social media, pass out flyers, in addition to simply telling their friends about our efforts. A special thank you to DJ Shoe, the Delta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, LYLAS, the Miami University Chapter of NSBE, Cellar Bar & Grill, the Office of Diversity Affairs, the Office of the Dean of Students at Miami University, Walmart, Enterprise, and most importantly Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for allowing us to donate what we collected.
